CBI arrested Bhola Yadav, assistant to former Bihar chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, in connection with a railway job scam when Lalu Yadav was railway minister in the UPA government, officials said today. The CBI or Central Bureau of Investigation also conducted a search today at four facilities – two in Darbhanga and Patna – belonging to Bhola Yadav, who was a Special Operations Officer (OSD) of the Minister of Railways at the time. Bhola, known as Lalu’s Hanuman, spends the majority of his time with the party leader.

Bhola was there working for his master around-the-clock even while Lalu was receiving treatment at AIIMS-Delhi recently.

He also belongs to the group of close friends who are granted unrestricted access to Rabri Devi’s official residence, the bungalow at 10 Circular Road.

CBI filed an FIR on 18 May against Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, his daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, along with 12 persons employed in the railway areas of Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, and Hajipur, the officials said. 

The agency alleges that members of the Lalu Prasad family acquired approximately 1.05 thousand square feet of land in Patna through cash payments to suppliers. 

“The present value of the seven parcels mentioned above of land, including land acquired through donation, at the current circular rate is approximately Rs 4.39 crores. The investigation revealed that the plot of land, purchased directly from suppliers by Lalu Prasad Yadav family members, was purchased at a price lower than was common in the circle”, the FIR complaints, without any notice or public announcement issued on the basis of false documents.

The agency also carried out a search of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s home in Patna and elsewhere on 20 May.

“We reiterate that the latest CBI case and raids conducted across the country in connection with it were sponsored by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the organization that governs the Center,” RJD alleged in the later searches.
